Gary Ray Sutton
Gary Ray Sutton, 77, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville.
He was born on August 15, 1946, in Staunton, a son of the late Samuel Jeremiah and Bonnie Lee Hevener Sutton, Sr.
Gary led a thrilling life full of adventures and enjoyed pushing the limits. After serving his country in the United States Navy, he retired from his family sign business. Gary's passion for excitement led him to become a proud member of the American Motorcycle Association. In fact, he held the Official Number 25S within the association. He was not just a casual rider; he also lived for the rush of bull riding.
As a renowned motorcycle daredevil, Gary often amazed audiences with his daring jumps all throughout Virginia. His fearlessness extended to flat track racing as well. Whether he was behind the handlebars or atop a bull, Gary always sought thrills that only few could ever experience.
Gary is survived by his partner of forty years, Bobbie Lawhorn; his son, Eric Ray Sutton and his wife, Dana; his grandchildren, Erica Bailey, Derek Ray Sutton, Genevieve Sutton, Lacy Sutton, Joshua Sutton, Joseph Sutton, and Jakob Sutton; his great-grandchildren, Sofia, Dawson, Hayzlee, Rosalee, Hudson, and Vaeda; his nephews, Matt Sutton and his wife, Angela and Stephen Sutton and his wife, Laura; his niece, Terri Morris and her husband, Ritchie; his great-nephews and nieces, Kasey May, Nicole Morris, Hannah Sutton, Maddie Sutton, Sam Sutton, Abe Sutton; his great-great niece, Aubree May.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Lanny Stephen Sutton and his half-brother, Samuel Jeremiah Sutton, Jr.
A graveside service will be conducted on Friday, November 3, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton.
Gary Ray Sutton will forever be treasured as a thrill-seeker and a true daredevil whose bravery inspired all those around him.
