Gary "Papa" Wayne Garth

May 25, 1956 - January 12, 2024

Gary Wayne “PaPa” Garth, 67, of Greenville, passed away Friday, January 12, 2024 at his home. He was born May 25, 1956 in Waynesboro, son of the late Walter Martin Garth (September 8, 1903 – April 8, 1977) and Peggy Chappell Truslow (August 20, 1930 – June 11, 2020).

Gary loved Dirt Track Racing and trucking. He especially loved taking care of everyone and loving his family.

A special thanks is extended to Mike Garth and Pam Banks.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Penny Stevens (January26, 1961 – September 26, 2022).

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Garth, they were married September 5, 1980; his daughter, Jenni Garth and her guy, Rodney White; his son, Davy Shiflett; his grandchildren, Candace Harvey with husband, Andrew, Cameron Nelson with Jack May and Cierra Nelson with Daniel; great-grandchildren, Josie, Jessie and Hannah Harvey; his siblings, Mike Garth and wife, Diane, Randy Garth and wife, Kathy, Jeannie Garth and Doris Roberts. Gary loved all of his nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his special friends the Via family and the Fenders.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mary Garth, 334 Deer Trail, Greenville, VA 24440.

Gary’s favorite quote is “You’re not lost until you are out of gas.”
