Fred Click Houff

December 5, 1926 - January 27, 2024

Fred Click Houff, 97, of Mount Crawford, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Sentara RMH Medical Center.

He was born on December 5, 1926 and was a son of the late David and Bessie (Click) Houff.

Fred was a Christian who trusted in Jesus Christ for his salvation. He was a retired dairy farmer and agri-businessman, starting Houff's Feed and Fertilizer along with his brother, Harry, in 1972. The company is now known as Houff Corporation with Fred's children and grandchildren working in the business. He was a lifelong member of Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren. He was an active member of the Weyers Cave Ruritan Club. He served his country in the US Merchant Marines during WWII.

Fred was united in marriage on June 30, 1951 to Alice (Hammer) Houff. His love for his wife was demonstrated each day as he always wanted to be by her side.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Kern Houff & wife Chanda, Dennis Houff and wife Donna, Teresa Patton & husband J.D., Neil Houff and wife Sara; a brother, Harry Houff and wife Bonnie; 13 grandchildren, Sonja Yankey and husband Jay, Jeremy Houff and wife Ashley, Christopher Houff and wife Greta, Jamison Houff and wife Lauren, Nathan Houff, Rebecca Lalley and husband Nate, David Patton and wife Lauren, Laura Negrellos and husband Alberto, Daniel Patton and wife Beth, Drew Patton, Samuel Houff and wife Melissa, Ben Houff and fiancée Shannon Blount, Will Houff and fiancée Tia Evans, 17 great grandchildren, Sadie Houff, Tanner Houff, Ali Yankey, Beth Yankey, Carter Yankey, Reuben Houff, Miriam Houff, Hannah Houff, David Houff, Rachel Houff, Bennett Houff, Tucker Houff, Brielle Lalley, Silas Lalley, Mila Patton, Henry Patton and baby girl Patton due in February.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Houff and Bennie Houff.

A service celebrating Fred's life will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren with Rev. Wayne Pence and Rev. Ron Wyrick officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 2, 2024 from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at the Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Grottoes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Redeemer Classical School, Pleasant Valley Church or Bridgewater Retirement Community.
