Francis Boland
Francis Patrick Boland IV, 54, of Strasburg VA passed away on October 16, 2024, from cardiomyopathy complications.
Frank was born on March 2, 1970, to Francis Patrick Boland III & Nancy DeYoung Boland in Boston, MA. He grew up between Havelock, NC, Okinawa, Japan, Fairfax, Virginia and Harlingen, TX. He graduated from Bishop O’Connell High School in Falls Church but was most fond of the two years he spent at the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen. He graduated from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Boston, MA after an extensive career as a bartender in the Washington DC bar scene.
Frank was known for the amazing food that he prepared on his trailer, Big Frank’s BBQ & Bacon. A lifelong, diehard Red Sox fan, he never met a Yankees fan he could resist harassing. He was a proud veteran, part of an elite group of delinquents, the Army Airborne Rangers and later member of the Honor Guard at Arlington National Cemetery. In his younger years, he ran with OWL VFD out of station 2 as a volunteer firefighter and medic. In all those careers, he never met a stranger. He leaves behind one of the largest networks of friends imaginable.
His family & friends knew him for his gregarious personality, wicked sense of humor, his booming laugh, and his benevolent heart. He was Uncle Frank to a host of nephews and nieces, blood and chosen.
Frank was predeceased by his father, grandparents, and his uncle, Thomas DeYoung. He survives by his mother, Nancy, his uncle, Mike DeYoung, his sisters Jackie & Meghan, his nephew Fionn & his nieces Ashley, Genevieve, Rory & Cassidy.
In accordance with his wishes there will be no service or funeral. There will be a celebration of his life around his birthday in March 2025 for friends and family to share their memories and love for Big Frank.
