Frances McInnis

Frances Gary (Clarke) McInnis, 77, of Staunton, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026 at Augusta Health in Fishersville. She was born in Richmond on February 19, 1948, a daughter of the late J. Leonard Clarke, Jr. and Frances H. Clarke

Gary, as she was affectionately known, graduated with her bachelor degree from Meredith College and received her master degree in education from East Carolina University. She worked as a special education teacher for Wake County Schools until her retirement. Gary was a former member of First Presbyterian Church of Garner, NC, where she served as a teacher, elder and chairman of Women of the Church. She also served as president of the Jaycettes Team and was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Sorority. In her spare time, sewing, needle point and attending exercise classes were a few of her favorite hobbies.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Daniel F. McInnis, Jr., of Staunton; brother, James Clarke and wife, Janice of Staunton; nephew, Andrew Clarke and wife, Michelle DeMars of Kansas City, MO; niece, Amy Shalawylo and her husband, Gregory and their children, Breonna, Zeke, and Hannah all of Swoope; as well as extended family and friends.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to her caregivers, Katherine Lowe, Anna Kolaski and Rosalee Wentz, to the Regency Staff and the staff of Hospice of the Shenandoah.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Gary’s memory to the Hospice of the Shenandoah, c/o the Augusta Health Foundation, P.O. Box 1000, Fishersville, VA 22939 or to the Special Olympics, 3212 Skipwith Rd., STE 100, Richmond, VA 23294.
