Frances Darlene Secrist

Frances “Darlene” Secrist, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at the Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center, Petersburg, WV.  She was born on January 21, 1945 in Lonaconing, MD, the daughter of the late Richard and Naomi (McCusker) Green.  On July 18, 1964, Darlene married her husband, Roger Lee Secrist, who preceded her in death on December 31, 2018.
Mrs. Secrist graduated from Valley High School, Lonaconing, MD in 1963 and was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Mary’s for over 40 years.  She worked as a security guard for Rockingham Poultry, a C.N.A. for the Grant County Nursing Home, as well as a secretary and bookkeeper for Petersburg Auto Wreckers.   Darlene remained busy as a member of the Dorcas CEO’s and Church Women United.  She also volunteered her time to the American Red Cross and was a faithful donor.  Darlene was known for her positive attitude, contagious smile, and ability to bake.  She was famous for her Whoopie Pies and Cinderella Salad.  She also loved her pets, often taking in strays, and cared for them deeply.
Darlene is survived by: 3 daughters, Brenda L. Frey (Robert) of Moorefield, WV; Robin S. Barr (David Flinn) of Petersburg, WV; Angela M. Champ (Bill) of Petersburg, WV; a sister, Rosa Reese of Webster, FL; a brother, Larry Green (Nilda) of Winchester, VA; 5 grandchildren, Brittney Smallwood; Wesley Barr (Holly);  Misti Carpenter (Larry); William “Nelson” Fisher, III; Micaiah Fisher; and 11 Great-Grandchildren.  In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by a grandson, Ashley Bland; 5 brothers, and 5 sisters.
Darlene’s family will receive friends on Monday, January 22, 2024 9-11 AM at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Petersburg, WV.  Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM with Father Dan Pisano officiating.  Interment will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Barton, MD.  Memorials may be made to your local animal shelter.  Memories and words of comfort may be left at www.basagic.com or on Facebook at Basagic Funeral Home.
