Florence "Maw Maw" Virginia (Shiflett) Breeden
Florence Virginia “Maw Maw” (Shiflett) Breeden, 88, widow of Amos Irvin Breeden, of Staunton, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at the Shenandoah Hospice House in Fishersville.
Mrs. Breeden was born in Greenville, Virginia on May 13, 1936, a daughter of the late Jacob Derr Shiflett and Martha Ella (Strickler) Shiflett.
Maw Maw was formerly a cook at “Our Place Restaurant” and attended Bethel Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed playing bingo, scratching lottery tickets, gardening, canning, and watching game shows.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Breeden was preceded in death by two brothers, Jake Shiflett and Joe Shiflett; a sister, Mary (Shiflett) Cale; a granddaughter, Martha “Boo” Root; and a great-granddaughter, Alexis Martin.
Surviving, is a daughter, Carolyn (Breeden) Rooney of Mt. Solon; three brothers, Frank Shiflett of Middlebrook, Charlie Shiflett and Marshall Shiflett both of Staunton; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Cason (Amy), Kristina Constantin, and Amber Heldibridle, (Jamie); twelve great-grandchildren, Racheal, Casey, Thomas, Gabrielle, Journey, Steven “Austin”, Chelsea, India, Jayden, Alexsandra, Lucas, and James; and five great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at Augusta Memorial Park by Pastor David Whitesell.
The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
