Evelyn Bargeron

Evelyn Rosetta (VanMeter) Bargeron, age 87 formerly of Moorefield, WV passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Hampshire Center in Romney, WV.

Evelyn was born on June 20, 1936 in Smoke Hole, WV and was a daughter of the late Jacob Harrison VanMeter and Zernie Alice (Alt) VanMeter.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Ronald H. Bargeron in 2011; six brothers, Calvin Earl VanMeter, Emmitt Grant VanMeter, Archie Adam VanMeter, Coye Franklin VanMeter, David Harry VanMeter Ronald William VanMeter; stepson, Wade Bargeron; special niece, Rhonda VanMeter.

When Evelyn wasn’t accompanying her husband on his trucking trips, she was a waitress for the former Sites Restaurant in Petersburg or baby sitting or cooking and baking for her family.  

Evelyn is survived by two sisters, Zadie Helmick of Maurertown, Virginia and Judy Helmick of Petersburg, WV; one brother, Donald VanMeter of Cabins, WV and several nieces and nephews including Ronald VanMeter; stepdaughter, Cheryl Ann Salisbury of Annapolis, MD; four step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Sunday, November 26, 2023 at 2:00 in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home  with Pastor Shannon Earle officiating.  Evelyn’s family will receive friends from 12 Noon till 2 PM.

Interment will be in South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens, Petersburg, WV.
