Eugenia M. Bowers
CHURCHVILLE – Eugenia Anne “Dena” (Mongold) Bowers, 88, passed away Saturday (March 15, 2025) in her home.
She was born on December 9, 1936 in Staunton, a daughter of the late Charles William Mongold, Sr. and Rebecca Grace (Pennington) Mongold. She was the last surviving member of her family. She was a 1954 graduate of Churchville High School and was a member of Loch Willow Presbyterian Church where she was church organist for over 30 years. “Dena” loved flowers, gardening and music. She was often heard playing the piano in her home
On June 3, 1954 she married Fred Gilmer Bowers. He preceded her in death on March 21, 2001. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Louise Armstrong and Rebecca Grace Cline; and three brothers, Charles William Mongold Jr., Clarence Raymond Mongold, and Robert Edward Mongold.
Surviving are four sons, Fred Bowers and wife Susan of Churchville, Clyde W. Bowers and wife Christine of Walkerton, Va., Steven Bowers and wife Anna of Swedesboro, N.J., and Randy Bowers and wife Teresa of Churchville; eight grandchildren, Crystal Culpen and husband Greg, Heather Acord and husband John, Clyde R. Bowers and wife Elizabeth, Will Bowers, Drew Bowers, Cameron Bowers, Alexis Bowers, and Megan Cash and husband Adam; great-grandchildren Paul Mawyer, Carmen Fitzgerald and husband Jacob, Dylan Culpen and fiancée Kara, Conner Culpen, Haley Acord and Kaley Acord, Norah Cash, Hank Cash, Kaine Cash, Daveiyn Bowers, Abygale Zalewski, and Brianne Zalewski; great-great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Aaron, and Carson Mawyer, and Lucas and Mary Fitzgerald; and special friend Kevin Strickler.
A graveside service will be held 11 am Wednesday, March 19 in Green Hill Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Reed Hopkins. Pallbearers will be Mark Davis, Bruce Doyle, Donnie Bussard, Jason Shumaker, Scott Armstrong, Lance Armstrong and John Acord.
The Bowers family is grateful for the recent support given by Augusta Health Hospice and Destiny, and for the dedicated and loving care given by granddaughter Heather Acord over the past few years.
