Ethel R. Shiplett

STAUNTON - Ethel (Rowe) “PeeWee” Shiplett, 89, formerly of Deerfield, died Friday (October 13, 2023) in Brookdale Staunton.

Born November 16, 1933 in Deerfield, she was a daughter of the late Dennis David Rowe and Edna Mae (Daugherty) Rowe.

Ethel was a 1951 graduate of Churchville High School. Prior to retirement, she was employed in the cafeteria of McSwain Elementary School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Summers T. Shiplett, Jr.; a brother, Leroy Rowe; and two sisters, Ruth Rowe and Glenna Mizer. Surviving are two children, Douglas Shiplett of Staunton, and Vivian Lough and husband Jim of Verona; three grandchildren, Douglas Troy Shiplett, Christina Dawn Vanlandingham and Matthew Scott Lough; and four great-grandchildren, Timothy Seddon, Ryleigh Lough, Carter Lough and Christopher Vanlandingham.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, October 19 in Deerfield Community Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Debbie Brown.
