Ervin E. Whetzel

Ervin E. Whetzel, age 87, of Arthur, WV, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at his home.  Mr. Whetzel was born on January, 5, 1937 in Landes, WV, the son of the late Isaac Harvey and Violet Leona (Nazelrodt) Whetzel.  
Mr. Whetzel attended the Edgewood School House in Landis and formerly went to Brake Brethren Church in Dorcas, WV.  Ervin began working as a timberman, cutting pulpwood and picked up odd jobs as a farmhand and working in sanitation collection.  He enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews and loved his brothers and sister dearly.  As a true West Virginian, he loved to go hunting whenever possible.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Ervin is survived by: a sister, Leoda Riggleman of Arthur, WV; 2 brothers, Arthur Whetzel (Dorothy) of Petersburg, WV; Delmas Whetzel, Sr. (Shirley) of Arthur, WV; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: 3 brothers, Herman, Lemuel, and Junior Whetzel; 2 step-brothers, Lawson Whetzel; and John Shirk.
Mr. Whetzel’s family will receive friends on Saturday, March 23, 12-2 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV.  Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Craig Howard officiating.   Interment will be in the Whetzel Family Cemetery, Arthur, WV.  Memorials may be made to Gideon’s International at www.gideion.org/donate or by calling 1-866-382-4253.   Memories and words of comfort may be left at www.basagic.com or on Facebook at Basagic Funeral Home.
