Ellen May Shaver

Ellen May Shaver, 76, of Weyers Cave, went into the arms of Jesus on Monday evening, August 25, 2025.

She was born on Friday, April 22, 1949, to George A. Roadcap, Jr. and Anna C. (Gooden) Roadcap.

For over 50 years, Ellen's mission field was her own living room, where she cared for more than 200 children. To every one of them, she wasn't "Mrs. Shaver"-she was Ma Ma Ellen. With her hugs, her home-cooked meals, her prayers, and daily devotions, she made each child feel like family.

Ellen's faith was the foundation of her life, and she was a dedicated member of Souls Harbor Church of Elkton.

Ellen shared her journey with her husband and best friend of 61 years, Buddy L. Shaver, Sr. Together, their greatest joy was the family they built-children, Pam (Rick) Connellee, Bud (Misty) Shaver, Kim (Travis) Petit, and Brent (Lindsay) Shaver. But perhaps nothing lit up her heart more than her grandchildren: Whittney (Jacob) Trump, Brianna Perteit (Corey Wheeler), Kayla Petit, Slade Connellee, Morgan Petit, Brooke Shaver, Ryleigh Shaver, Blake Shaver, Bryce Shaver, and Bo Shaver. She is also survived by her sister, Norma Atkins; many loved nieces and nephews; and a very special best friend and "sister" who stood by her side, Edna Roadcap.

In addition to her parents, she was welcomed into Heaven by her siblings: Hallie Roadcap, George Roadcap, Shelva Mitts, Everette Roadcap, James Roadcap, Robert Roadcap, and Janet Curry.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Grottoes.

A celebration of Ellen's life will be held on Friday, August 29th, at 1 PM at the funeral home, with Pastor Corey Herod officiating. Burial will follow at Edgewood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Souls Harbor Building Fund, 221 Rustic Retreat Ln, Shenandoah, VA 22849.
