Elizabeth Laidlaw Jones

Elizabeth Laidlaw Jones, 86, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at Stuarts Draft Retirement Community and Christian Homes.
Elizabeth, or Liz as she was known, was born February 1, 1937, in Holland, New York, a daughter of the late Archibald McVey and Ella Katharine (Silliman) Laidlaw.

She loved winter sports such as cross-country skiing and ice skating. She was also an avid water-skier and growing up you would often find her with her family at Lime Lake, New York.

Prior to her retirement, Liz was employed as a pre-school teacher and director. Liz loved little children and would light up with joy whenever she was around them. In addition to her career as a pre-school teacher, she loved teaching children in Sunday School at the various churches she attended.

Liz loved nothing better than sewing and quilting projects and handwork of all sorts. Her creative mind also frequently came up with all sorts of decorative and crafty projects that she enjoyed giving to many people. Liz truly had a servant’s heart and loved cooking meals and giving gifts to others. She was also devoted to her children and grandchildren through letters, home-made desserts and attending their many activities. Liz also had a lovely singing voice and enjoyed performing in church and community choirs.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Freeman Jones and a grandson, Timothy Jones.

Survivors include two sons, Ken Jones and wife, Sue, of Fishersville, Doug Jones and wife, Sue, of Milmay, N.J.; daughter, Kathy Neu and husband, Ken, of Annville, Pa.; sister, Ellen Walls of Washington State; seven grandchildren, Chris Diamond-Jones and wife Rachel, Ben Jones, Amy Jones, Emily Phillips and husband Thomas, Edward Jones and wife Ali, Zach Neu and fiancé Sarah Manske, Sarah Neu and a great granddaughter, Layna Phillips.

A memorial service will be held at 1pm on January 6, 2024, at the Waynesboro Free Methodist Church located at 600 Hopeman Pkwy, Waynesboro, VA 22980.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of The Meadows at the Stuarts Draft Retirement Community and to Hospice of the Shenandoah for the great care and love they showed to Liz and the family.
