Edward Elliott Holden
Edward Elliott Holden, 88, of Fishersville, went to be with his heavenly father on Friday, August 2, 2024.
Mr. Holden was born May 20, 1936 to the late Roger E. Holden and Vera (Toombs) Holden of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.
He was a graduate of the University of Connecticut in the Ratcliffe Hicks School of Agriculture and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Holden was also a Past Master of Matthew John Whittall Masonic Lodge in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. In 1983, Mr. Holden moved to the Shenandoah Valley where he founded, owned, and operated Blue Ridge Dairy until his retirement. He was a member of Old Providence ARP Church.
Mr. Holden was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Charlotte Fuller Holden.
Surviving, is his wife of twenty-six years, Alice (Ogden) Holden; two sons, Raymond E. Holden and his wife, Maryellen of Orange, CT and Bruce F. Holden and his wife, Sherry of Spottswood; a step-daughter, Elizabeth Geris Sacco and her husband, James; brothers, Robert L. Holden and his wife, Donna of West Boylston, MA and Dr. Herbert R. Holden and his wife, Rebecca of Seneca Falls, NY; a sister, Janet Holden Gibeling and her husband, Howard of Williamsburg, VA; and grandchildren, Eric Holden and his wife, Ashley, Rachel Holden and her fiancé, Cristian Mortali, and Katherine Holden.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024 at Old Providence ARP Church (1005 Spottswood Road, Spottswood, VA) by Pastor Patrick Malphrus.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery and will include military honors and masonic rites.
The family will receive friends in the “Stone Hall” following the burial.
Active pallbearers will be Ken Crowder, Jeremiah Sullenger, Kyle Leonard, Scott Earhart, Lenny Phillips, Doug Fravel and Dr. Sam Rowe.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to his niece, Kim Sullenger, for her unwavering love and support throughout his challenging illness. We are profoundly grateful to his exceptional caretaker, Penny Whitesell, whose boundless compassion, patience, comfort, and dedication have been a beacon of light during this time. Her remarkable care and tireless commitment have made an immeasurable difference. Our deepest thanks also go to Dr. Gillock, Dr. Chernoff, Leigh Mann, P.A., Dr. Heck, and the entire team at Shenandoah Hospice House for their outstanding medical care and kindness.
