Edward Chester Lyman
Edward Chester Lyman Jr., 86, of Staunton, joined his beloved wife, Bernice (Turner) Lyman, in eternal life on Saturday, April 26, 2025.
He was born on December 17, 1938, in Boston, Massachusetts, to the late Edward Chester Lyman Sr. and Lorraine (Richner) Lyman.
Ed served his country in the United States Air Force before beginning a career in radio, working from 1958 to 1977 as the Square Bear in the Air Chair. His time in radio led him to meet the love of his life, Bernice, and the two were married on January 22, 1961. In 1967, they moved to Staunton, Virginia, where they laid down roots and built a life together.
In 1973, Ed embarked on his entrepreneurial journey, founding Cars For Less — a business he built from the ground up through hard work, dedication, and vision — retiring in 2007. He was also committed to serving the automotive and local communities, serving as President of the VIADA, Vice President of the NIADA, and as a member of the Rotary and Lions Clubs.
He was also preceded in death by his eldest son, Edward III (Trey) and his brother, David.
Ed is survived by his son, Steve and his wife, Kristine; his daughter, Kim Irving and her husband, Scott; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
