Edward Allen Gillette

July 1, 1946 - February 12, 2025

Edward Allen Gillette, 78, of Bridgewater, (originially from Suffolk, VA) passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Sentara RMH Medical Center.

He was born on July 1, 1946, in Norfolk to the late Donald Gibbs Gillette, Sr. and Roselle (Smith) Gillette. On Nov. 25, 1967, he married his wife of 57 years, Mary Riffle Gillette, who survives.

He was a veteran and served in the United States Navy from Dec. 1965 until being honorably discharged in Dec. 1968. Including serving a tour in Morocco, he was assigned to the USS Lake Champlain and the USS Sampson DDG-10.

He retired from the United States Department of Agriculture in 2008 where he was employed as a Consumer Safety Inspector for 28 years. Allen was a member of the Mill Creek Church of the Brethren and volunteered for many church projects.

In addition to his wife, Allen is survived by two sons, Stephen Edward Gillette and wife Beth, with two very special grandchildren, Evan and Kendra Gillette, and David Louis Gillette and wife Ashley, with another very special grandson, Aiden.

Also surviving are one brother, Herbert L. Gillette and wife, Brenda, of Suffolk, VA, and a sister, Wilma G. Pfadenhauer and husband, John, of Carlisle, PA, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alma G. Hughes, and brother, Donald G. Gillette, Jr.

The body will be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Mill Creek Church of the Brethren, with pastor Glenn Bollinger officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Weekday Religious Education, and/or Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF).
