Edith Cox Jackson
SWOOPE – Edith May (Cox) Jackson, widow of Delmar Carlyle Jackson, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2026, just one day before her 102nd birthday.
Edith was born in Swoope on May 11, 1924 and was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Cox and Maggie May (Greaver) Cox. She was a 1943 graduate of Churchville High School. She and Delmar were married on September 4, 1948.
Edith was employed as Churchville Elementary School’s cafeteria manager for 11 years, and as a cook at Staunton Frozen Foods for 13 years. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crafts, puzzles, attending auctions, and dancing at The Barn. Edith took great pride in compiling the family tree of her grandfather Franklin P. Cox’s descendants. She attended Buffalo Gap Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Benjamin H., Raymond, Wallace G., and Joseph H. Cox; and nephew Randy Cox.
She is survived by her niece, Tamme Cox Flory (Roger) and her children, Benjamin Flory (Alexis Flavin) and Alayna Flory Sensabaugh (Hunter), and their children, Ryker Sensabaugh and Virginia Flory. Also surviving are nieces Joan Lafferty and Alice Ann Doyle; and nephews Anthony Cox and Wayne Cox.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 14 in the chapel of Bear Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Gwen Carr. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Alayna Sensabaugh, Ben Flory, Hunter Sensabaugh, Dale Harris, Ken Cox and Anthony Cox. Honorary pallbearers will be Dorene Keller, Jenny Crummett, Sue Patterson and Donna Harris.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
The family wishes to thank all who have assisted Edith, particularly after she stopped driving, at age 100.
In lieu of flowers, Edith had requested that memorial donations be made to a charity of choice.
