Dorothy Pittman

October 25, 1932 - April 20, 2026

Dorothy Jean Cook Pittman, 93, of Waynesboro, Virginia, went to be with her Lord on Monday, April 20, 2026. She was born in Waynesboro on October 25, 1932.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Renis Dinkle and Lucy Naomi (Sandy) Cook; her husband, Brownlee Pittman; her brothers, Donald Cook and Howard Cook and her sisters, Caroline Cook and Frances Love.

She is survived by her three loving children: son, Dana Pittman (wife, Mitzi), daughters, Danetta Hartman (husband, Jimmy) and Donna Benson (husband, Matt); her grandchildren, Megan and Ryan Pittman, Holly Gray (Justin), Heather Johnson, Rachel Benson (Taylor), Melanie Benson; her great-grandchildren, Malakai and Silas Johnson, Cora Jean and Brady Gray and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jean retired from Kroger. She was a devoted member of Glovier Memorial United Methodist Church and she loved her church family.

She delighted in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with all of her family and friends, hosting many family gatherings as the matriarch of the family.

Jean was a true prayer warrior who supported not only her family and friends, but also her church and community. She devoted her life to the Lord, to caring for others and she loved people well.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, April 24, 2026, in the Chapel of the Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 619 Lifecore Dr., Fishersville, conducted by The Rev. Matthew W. (Bill) Jones. Interment will follow in Augusta Memorial Park, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends, at the funeral home, from 9 am until the hour of the service on Friday.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions, in her honor, to Glovier Memorial United Methodist Church, 688 Highland Ave., Waynesboro, VA 22980.
