Dorothy Louise Hinkle

Dorothy Louise Hinkle, 82, of Richmond, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023.

She was born in Missouri on June 12, 1941, and was a daughter of the late Lewis R. and Mary M. (Nichols) Holt.

Dorothy attended University of Missouri and later obtained her Master Degree from Smith College where she met her husband of 53 years. She was a dedicated educator and spent the majority of her career with Fairfax County Public Schools.

On June 25, 1966 she was united in marriage to John David Hinkle, who preceded her in death on September 3, 2019.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Suzanne Hinkle of Winchester, Elizabeth Hinkle of Glen Allen, and Matthew (Kathy) Hinkle of Mechanicsville; grandchildren, Zelda Hinkle and Ava Hinkle; brother, J. David Holt of Tampa, FL; niece, Rebecca Paschal and her family of Manchester, MD.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Robert Holt, and a sister, Mary Love.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2023 at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service Chapel in Bridgwater. Burial will follow at Dayton Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
