Donald Mongold

Donald William “Don” Mongold, age 87 of Arthur, WV passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at his home. Donald was born on February 15, 1936 in Dorcas, WV and was a son of the late William John Mongold and Odie Cathern (Whetzel) Mongold.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Helen (Sears) Mongold in 1997 and two sisters, Naomi Ketterman and Arletta Mongold and one brother, Bobby Mongold.

Donald is survived by one sister, Geraldine Long (Robert) of Maysville, WV; sister-in-law, Betty Mongold of Dorcas, WV; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews including special great nephew, Noah Shirk. Also including his caregiver, Lori Long and his faithful dog Dixie.

Donald served in the United States Army from 1959—1965 and was stationed in Germany. He was a member of American Legion Post 64 of Moorefield, WV. He also was a member of the NRA. Donald worked for Kessel Lumber Company and raised chickens and worked with Charles Goldizen. Donald loved gardening, visiting family and friends and hunting. He was a past member of Green’s Hunting Club. He attended Brake Covenant Church of the Brethren.

Donald’s family will receive friends Thursday, July 20, 2023 from 6 – 8 PM at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.

Funeral service will be Friday, July 21, 2023 11 AM in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Rotruck officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery with military honors by Potomac Highlands VFW Post 6454 and WV Army Honor Guard.
