Donald L. Clemmer
Donald Lee Clemmer, 83, of Middlebrook, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.
He was born on September 11, 1940, in Augusta County, a son of the late James Lloyd Sr. and Elizabeth Estaline Patterson Clemmer.
He graduated from Wilson Memorial High School and Valley Career and Technical Center in Fishersville. During his time at Wilson, he excelled as a student-athlete and was particularly known for his skills in baseball.Donald's career with the Virginia Department of Transportation spanned nearly thirty years, where he worked in the stone lab. His commitment to his work was matched only by his passion for farming. He embraced the land and nurtured it with love and dedication throughout his life.Outside of work and school, Donald had a wide range of interests and hobbies that brought him joy. He possessed a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed spending time hunting. A die-hard UVA sports fan, he found great excitement in cheering for their basketball and baseball teams. Donald was also a charter member of the Riverheads High School Young Farmers, demonstrating his commitment to fostering agricultural traditions.Among his many hobbies, Donald had a fondness for antique tractors and tractor pulls. His enthusiasm for these machines showcased an appreciation for history and craftsmanship. However, nothing brought him more joy than spending quality time with his family. He cherished his loved ones dearly and held immense pride in his heritage and ancestry.In addition to his parents and his late wife, Sue Blackwell Cash Clemmer, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Lynn Clemmer and his brothers, James "J.L." Lloyd Jr., Dennis Edward, and Larry Walter Clemmer.He is survived by his daughter, Melinda "Mindy" Lee Clemmer Andrews and her husband, Rob; his special caregiver, Walt Lupachino; numerous nieces and nephews; many loving friends; and his beloved cat, Gabby.The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton and at other times at the residence of Tim and Dianna Clemmer. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 8, 2024, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Middlebrook with the Reverend Lance Braun officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Hermon Lutheran Church Cemetery in Middlebrook.
