Dolores Simmons Glick
Dolores Simmons Glick, of Bridgewater, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024. She was born in Moyers, West Virginia on January 14, 1936, and was the daughter of the late R.V. and Verna Puffenbarger Simmons. On December 25, 1953, she was united in marriage to Stanley Glick, who died in 2022.
Dolores graduated from North River High School in 1953 and after graduation worked for the FBI in Washington_ DC. She later graduated from the Staunton School of Cosmetology. Following her marriage she was employed in several locations, including as a hairdresser at Boyd's Terry Court in Staunton, Leggett Department Store in Christiansburg and the University Book Store at VA Tech. After returning to Bridgewater, she was employed at Transprint USA.
Dolores became a member of the Church of the Brethren early in her life and was an active participant in choirs, youth ministry and Sunday School leadership in the Christiansburg, Bridgewater and Summit congregations. She and Stanley were also Foster Care Parents for children and assisted in the resettlement of a family from Bosnia. For many years Dolores was very active in the Bridgewater Women's Club, serving as Vice-President and then as President. She loved being engaged with her family and friends at home and her hobbies included flowers, collecting antiques and creating a beautiful doll collection.
Surviving are her children, Eugene Glick (Debbie Smith) and Terry Glick; grandson Christopher Carpenter; siblings Charles Simmons, Margaret Mackey (Bob), John Simmons (Judy), Wanda Pratt, Nancy Mann, Deb Simmons (Larry), and Randy Simmons (Debbie); Brother-in-law Joseph Glick; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Paul Glick; Sister Marribelle Leake(Tom); In-laws: Dorothy Simmons, Barb Simmons, Bob Pratt, Pete Mann, Wendell Glick(Barbara), Victor Glick(Mary), John Glick(Geraldine), Wayne Glick(Barbara), Elizabeth Glick-Reiman(Glenn), Don Glick(Jean), Mickie Hunkins(Ralph) Doris Glick, Dawn Phibbs{Ray), Ruth Welliver(Allyn), Paul Emerson Glick
There will be no viewing and burial service will be private. A worship service celebrating Dolores' Life and Faith will be held 11:30 am on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Summit Church of the Brethren. Pastor Tim Craver, Rev. Steve Spire and members of the Simmons and Glick families will participate in the service. Everyone is invited to a luncheon at the church immediately following the memorial service.
