Lois, as she wished to be called, was a mother of six children. She was a homemaker and had a very strong work ethic. Her children frequently heard her stories about having to milk cows before going to school. She made the best hoe cakes, greens, and chicken and dumplings. Her specialties were cocoa candy and homemade turkey dressing. She loved the outdoors and had many pets, keeping chickens, bottle-feeding calves, and caring for hunting dogs. "Chicken lady" was her call handle. Her favorite dogs were Airedales and Border Collies. Her home was surrounded by the many flowers that she planted and cared for, including her favorite: roses. Inside, she had many cardinal decorations that were given by family who knew she loved to watch cardinals outside her living room window. In earlier years, she was extremely passionate about politics and often travelled or worked the polls in support of her favorite candidates. Later, she was an avid viewer of Fox News and loved to have political debates. She was equally passionate about the Green Bay Packers.
Lois loved Jesus and the Salvation Army, as well as yard sales and auctions. She even knew her local thrift store employees' favorite restaurant orders and would bring them food and drinks to thank them for their hard work. When you went to visit her, she always offered you something to take home, whether it be an article of clothing or a pot of beans. She was always generous that way.
Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, August 16, 2024 at McDow Funeral Home.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at River Edge Nursing and Rehab for their attentive care, and to all the staff at McDow Funeral Home for all their help.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lois’ name to the Piney Mountain Bible Chapel, 4034 Beech Grove Road, Roseland, Virginia, 22967.
