David Walton Swisher

April 12, 1927 - July 1, 2023

David Walton Swisher, 96, loving husband of Ruth Bodkin Swisher and loving father of Peggy Ann Swisher and Susan Marie (Brian) Carter, entered Heaven July 1, 2023.

Mr. Swisher was born on April 12, 1927 in Clarksburg, West Virginia to Isa Hoff Swisher and Frank Swisher.

Dave was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in World War II. He retired as a computer analyst from the Navy Department in Washington, D. C. after 34 years of service with the Federal Government.

From his early years, he was a servant of the Lord, which continued into adulthood. Dave was a faithful member and supporter of First Baptist Church in Staunton and previously for 30 years at First Baptist Church in Waynesboro. He was one of twelve members of the first Waynesboro First Baptist Church's Habitat for Humanity, treasurer of Waynesboro Weekday Religious Education, member of The Salvation Army Advisory Board, and a mission team member of FBC Waynesboro to Prague and Budapest.

His mother painted with oils, but Dave painted with stained glass, creating beautiful pieces of panels and lamp shades.

In addition to his wife and children, Mr. Swisher is survived by four grandchildren, Lindsay (Josh) Sodee, Dr. Lauren Carter (Nate) Lyles, David Tubbs, and Eric Tubbs; and many nephews, nieces and great-nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2023 in The Legacy at North Augusta’s chapel by Dr. Steve Traylor and Mr. Danny Pritchett.

Burial will be private in Augusta Memorial Park.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
