David "Dave" Alvin Anderson
Reverend David Alvin “Dave” Anderson, 70, husband of Carol (Farrington) Anderson, of Staunton, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at the Hospice of the Piedmont in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Rev. Anderson was born in Staunton, Virginia on January 16, 1955, a son of the late Robert Alvin Anderson and Betty Jean (Sharp) Anderson Hoover.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his stepfather, Roger Hoover; and his son-in-law, Scott Fielding.
Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife of 47 years, are three sons, Robert David “Rob” Anderson and his wife, Mary of Harrisonburg, Marc Denver Anderson of Rustburg, and Nathan Kent Anderson and his wife, Brianne of Stuarts Draft; a daughter, Lori (Anderson) Fielding of Staunton; a brother, Robert Dean Anderson and his wife, Renee of Henderson, NC; four grandchildren, Connor David Fielding, Ida Joy Anderson, Riley Kai Anderson, and Parker Emme Anderson; a step-granddaughter, Morgan Fielding; and several special nieces and nephews.
Dave Anderson grew up in Waynesboro, Virginia. He was active in the local Boy Scouts, earning the rank of Eagle Scout and induction into the Order of the Arrow.
Dave attended Carson‑Newman College, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1977, and went on to complete his Master of Divinity at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
His pastoral journey began at Mount Paran Baptist Church in Montebello, Virginia, where he served from 1987 to 1989. He then led New Hope Baptist Church in Skipwith, Virginia, from 1989 to 1992, followed by Linden Heights Baptist Church from 1992 to 2009. He concluded his pastoral ministry at First Baptist Church in South Boston, Virginia, serving from 2009 to 2014 when he retired. In retirement he served as Director of Missions for Virginia Baptist Association until 2018.
Dave deeply loved every congregation he served, cherishing the people and the lifelong friendships he formed. His passion for service extended beyond the pulpit—he participated in numerous mission trips to Central America and Europe and was actively involved in Virginia Baptist Disaster Relief.
He loved spending time with his wife and grandchildren—whether exploring the outdoors at their cabin or traveling together. In his later years, his Rock Steady family—a community of fellow participants and volunteers in his Parkinson’s support and exercise group—became a source of unwavering friendship, encouragement, and joy.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2025 at Linden Heights Baptist Church, 371 Linden Drive, Staunton.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at Linden Heights Baptist Church by Revs. Luke Smith, Skip Wallace and Susan Davis.
Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Jon Anderson, Steven Jones, Shawn Krieg, Brett Harmon, Josh Seaman, and Mike Herr.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
