Darren Carey
Darren Blaine Carey, 60, of Middlebrook, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at his home. He was born on November 17, 1964, a son of the late Glenn Allen and Shirby Blackwell Carey who still survives.
Darren graduated from Stuarts Draft High School and Valley Vocation Technical Center in 1983. He worked as an Operator with Alcoa/Plygem from 1984 until his retirement in 2006. Darren took pride in having built his home in which he lived for over 35 years and where he raised his two loving children. He had a grand smile, an infectious laughter, and a hysterical sense of humor. He loved to party and have a great time; making friends no matter where he went. He enjoyed carpentry, hunting, fishing, guns, knives, and auto mechanics. Darren was a loving and devoted son, brother, father, and friend to all those he cherished.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Rudolph and Annie Carey; maternal grandparents, Alvin and Margaret Blackwell; grandfather-in-law, Russell Hewitt; in-laws, Frankie and Rosa Whitesell; best friend, Ralph Eastwood; along with many other lifelong friends; and his baby grandson, Mason.
In addition to his mother, left to cherish his memory are his children: Raymond Lee Carey and his fiancé Trisha Renae Jordan of Middlebrook and Hannah Carey Sipe and husband, Codie Malcolm Sipe of Waynesboro; former spouse and mother of his children, Lisa Whitesell Hanger; brother, Trent Allen Carey of Raphine; sister-in-law, Rose Marie Lakatos; brothers-in-law, Frankie Lee and Brandon Whitesell; his good friends, Timothy Saben, Tiki Gibson, and Tammy Hostetter; as well as extended family and friends. Darren also leaves behind his beloved kitty cat, Princess Maya.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2pm on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at Augusta Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Dylan Lakatos, Carrie Gomez, Zachery Weaver, and Logen Louk.
There will be no public viewing or visitation at the funeral home.

The family would like to express a heartfelt special thanks to Darren’s hospice nurse and long time friend and neighbor, Karen Kinder, RN, as well as the Connections Plus Hospice Team, the University of Virginia Health System and Augusta Health Hospital and Wound Clinic.
