Darlene L. Dorsey
CHURCHVILLE – Darlene Lucille (Cook) Dorsey, 74, wife of James C. “Jamie” Dorsey, passed away Tuesday (May 14) in Augusta Health.
Darlene was born April 20, 1950 in Staunton, a daughter of the late Paul Kenneth and Anna Lee (Kiracofe) Cook. She was raised by her uncle and aunt, Merlin Blair and Margie Elizabeth (Kiracofe) Sheffer. She was a 1968 graduate of Buffalo Gap High School and earned an associate’s degree in secretarial science from Blue Ridge Community College. Darlene worked for the Augusta County School Board and Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center in earlier years. She and Jamie then owned and operated Dorsey’s Market for many years, retiring in 2012. She later worked for Dotson’s Pest Control and was co-owner of Onsite Tees. Darlene loved painting, cross stitch, cooking, and singing. She enjoyed Harry Potter and Sherlock Holmes, theme parks, Civil War battle sites, and musicals. She was a life-long member of Jerusalem Chapel Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a dear “sister,” Shirley Marshall. Surviving are her husband of 53 years, James Curtis Dorsey, two daughters, Tanya Crummett (husband Larry), and Krystal Dorsey; sisters Marilyn Simmons (husband Ronnie) of Staunton and Connie Jenkins of Fredericksburg; brother Alan Cook of Manassas; grandchildren Robert and Kinley Crummett; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday (May 20) in Jerusalem Chapel Church, officiated by Pastors Todd Yoder and George Etling. Burial will follow in West Augusta Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Bear Funeral Home.
