Cleta May (Howdyshell) Brooks

August 24, 1931 - February 8, 2025

Cleta May (Howdyshell) Brooks, 93, widow of Russell Thomas Brooks, of Howardsville Road, Staunton, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2025 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Stuarts Draft.
     Mrs. Brooks was born on August 24, 1931 in Augusta County, Virginia a daughter of the late Lee Henry Fillmore Howdyshell and Amanda Elizabeth (Simmons) Howdyshell.
     Cleta retired from McKee Bakery in 2008 after 13 years of service. She enjoyed flower gardening, and was known to her family as “Aunt Snootie”.
     In addition to her parents and husband of 60 years, Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Howdyshell and Bob Howdyshell; three sisters, Pauline Jarvis, Ella Botkin and Nancy Sweet; and her son-in-law, Earle “Buddy” Weekley, Jr.
     Surviving are two daughters, Debra Ann Weekley of Dayton, and Linda Sue Brooks and her husband Ken Clark of Stuarts Draft; the apple of her eye, grandson, John Lacy Farrish (Tricia); a brother, Ronnie Howdyshell; special niece, Becky Howdyshell; special friend, Dixie Miller; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
     In honoring Mrs. Brooks’ wishes, services will be private.
     It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the Augusta Health Foundation, C/O Hospice of the Shenandoah, P.O. Box 1000, Fishersville, Va. 22939.
     The family would like to express a sincere “Thank you” to Dr. Samuel Hostetter and the nurses and staff at Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, for their care, kindness and compassion shown to Mrs. Brooks.
