Clarence August Hoten, age 81, of Beckley, WV, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at his home. He was born on December 29, 1941, in Chesaning, MI, the son of the late Shier and Esther (Verga) Hoten. Clarence married Rebecca Ann (Gillispie) Hoten, who preceded him in death on February 2, 2012.
Mr. Hoten graduated from Chesaning Union High School in Michigan. He was a member of Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren and he enjoyed fishing and coin collecting. Being a history buff, he also enjoyed storytelling, blue grass music, and a good cigar. Clarence retired in 2004 from Cargill Poultry.
Clarence was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served as a maintenance supervisor/head mechanic and was honored to have serviced Air Force One that carried the President of the United States.
Mr. Hoten leaves behind to cherish his memory: a daughter, Jennifer Hoten of Harrisonburg, VA; a son, C.C. Hoten (Sara) of Beckley, WV; a sister, Deborah “Debbie” Spencer (Terry) of Chesaning, MI; 2 brothers, Bruce Hoten and Kurt Hoten, both of Chesaning, MI; and 2 grandchildren, Aaron “Bubbi” and Airidesa Hoten. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Judith Hoten.
Mr. Hoten's family will receive friends on Sunday, July 23, 2023, 6-8 PM, at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. Funeral services will be on Monday, July 24, 2023, at 1100 AM at Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren in Brandywine, WV, with Pastor Mark Bowser officiating and Military Honors conducted by the US Air Force.
