Charles Edward Mawyer
STAUNTON – Charles Edward Mawyer, 86, passed away Monday (July 19, 2021) surrounded by family.
Born September 6, 1934 in Fordwick (Augusta County), he was the son of Luther Dean and Fannie Edith (Knicely) Mawyer. He graduated from Craigsville High School and was employed as a dock worker with Smith’s Transfer for 21 years until his retirement. He enjoyed camping and collecting and selling knives.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jean (Buchanan) Mawyer; a son, Dean Alexander Mawyer, a brother, Franklin Mawyer; and three great-grandchildren, Steven Widner, Julian Mawyer, and Chloe Vint.
Surviving are his five children, Wayne Mawyer and special friend Cindy Doyle of Verona, Carolyn Wood and husband Vincent of Staunton, Gwin “Joe” Mawyer and wife Terry of Swoope, Ralph Mawyer and wife Pam of Craigsville, and Randy Mawyer and wife Teresa of Staunton; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, July 22 in Miller Memorial Cemetery in Craigsville, officiated by the Rev. David Bailey. Pallbearers will be grandsons and friends.
Friends may visit at the home of Carolyn and Vincent Wood, 21 Two Wood Ln., Staunton, Va.
