Cecil A. Byrd
FISHERSVILLE – Cecil Alvie “C. A.” Byrd, 87, of 17 Goose Neck Lane, Apt. 104, Fishersville and formerly of Churchville, died Friday (January 20, 2023) in his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born November 2, 1935, a son of Cecil Archibald Byrd and Ann Elizabeth (Hevener) Byrd. C. A. graduated from Wilson Memorial High School in 1956 and on June 28, 1959 married the former Mary Ann Sipe. He worked for a period of time for Crompton, but for over 5o years owned and operated Byrd’s Wrecking in Staunton. He was an avid fan of dirt-track racing and spent countless hours at Eastside Speedway. He loved to see other parts of the world, and traveled widely with his family. C. A. was a member of St. James United Methodist Church from his youth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert William Byrd; and a sister, Cecilia Ann Byrd Mays. Surviving in addition to his wife Mary Ann are two children, Michael Scott Byrd and wife Doris of Verona, and Ashley Taylor Byrd Rankin of Staunton; five grandchildren, Bradley Cole Byrd and wife Chelsea, Trisha Renae Jordan and fiance Ray Carey, Emberly Michelle Jordan, Ariana Jade Rankin, and Dominic Michael Knight; step grandchildren Edward Rutledge and Cody Rutledge; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 24 in St. James United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Lester Kennedy. Entombment in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens will take place privately. Pallbearers will be members of the Open Door Sunday school class.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
