Carol Jane Smith

Carol Jane Smith, 84, of Staunton passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026 at Staunton Post Acute Rehabilitation. She was born in New York on April 9, 1942, a daughter of the late Bernise J. and Marian (Scales) Smith. In the early 1970s, Carol worked as an executive secretary for a law firm in Washington, D.C. An avid traveler, she embraced opportunities to explore near and far. She spent many winters sailing throughout the Caribbean with her beloved partner, creating cherished memories on the open sea. Her travels also took her to Africa, where she enjoyed unforgettable safari adventures and experienced the beauty of the natural world firsthand. A passionate skier, she found joy on the slopes and remained active throughout her life. Her adventurous spirit, love of discovery, and enthusiasm for life inspired those who knew her. She will be remembered for her warmth, independence, and the many stories she shared from a lifetime of remarkable experiences. Carol is survived by her sister, Susan Perry of Stuarts Draft and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. There will be no public services. Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
