Calvin "Charlie" O'Brian Hagar
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” – John 14:1-3
Calvin O’Brian Hagar, fondly known as “Charlie,” age 45, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 5, 2025.
He was preceded in death by Baby Hagar; his maternal grandparents, James and Shirley Hagar; paternal grandparents, Lee Russell Johnson and Joseph Carter; and his stepfather, Thomas “Cotton” Toliver.
Charlie graduated from Nelson County High School and faithfully served for seventeen years at Ply Gem Siding Group. From a young age, he built a foundation of faith in Christ and joined Zion Hill Baptist Church, where he sang in the youth choir. Later in life, he renewed his walk with God and grew stronger in faith under the leadership of Pastor Ray Eppard at Part of Victory Worship Center.
Charlie will always be remembered for his warm smile, kind heart, and deep love for his family. A lifelong New York Giants fan, he enjoyed rocking matching sneakers and hats. He took great pride in maintaining his vehicles—whether shining them up or setting up his speaker system to enjoy his favorite music. He also loved riding his ATV, fishing, racing RC cars, and was rarely seen without a cold Dr. Pepper in hand.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Ashley; three sons, Cole, Caden, and Camdyn; mother, Gwedolyn Hagar Kidd (Travis); father, Calvin Johnson; sister, Kimberly Hubbard (Travis); brother, Zachary; in-laws, Al and Donna Hite; brother-in-law, Todd Hite (Heather); nephews, Joell, Nijah, Jasiah, Travis II, and Vaiden; niece, Logan; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends—including his best friend cousins who held a special place in his heart, and his beloved dog, Guapo.
A Family Night will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, Fishersville from 5:00–7:00 p.m.
A Homegoing Celebration will follow on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Bridge Christian Church in Fishersville.
