Cabot Ransome Cosby

December 20, 1954 - December 24, 2023

Cabot Ransome “Randy” Cosby, 69, passed away peacefully at home on December 24, 2023. He was born on December 20, 1954, in Knoxville, TN, to William W. and Mildred H. Cosby. He was predeceased by his sister, Susan C. Dillow.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ramona Wood Cosby; and by daughters, Lisa Cosby Fitzgerald (Justin) and Maria Cosby Kimlel (Justin). His greatest joys were his four granddaughters, Emery and Hazel Fitzgerald and Adelina and Eliana Kimlel.

Randy grew up and attended school in Waynesboro, VA. He received a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Virginia with a specialty in Structural Engineering. He always maintained a keen interest in any type of plans and sitework. He enjoyed following the progress of all local construction projects.

He designed roof and floor trusses during his career and was employed by Automated Structures in Charlottesville, VA and by Shoffner Industries in Raleigh, NC and Fishersville, VA. He retired from Universal Forest Products in Fishersville.

Randy wished for no formal services and the family suggests you honor him by remembering your favorite memories with him and by enjoying a few of his favorite activities such as sharing jokes, listening to vintage Rolling Stones and Eagles music, enjoying a good Chinese meal, drinking a beer while watching Animal House, taking a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway, watching a game while cheering for his beloved Wahoos and most importantly, always continuing to learn new things.

As he was a perpetual learner and in keeping with his love for space exploration and the great unknown, the family will honor and celebrate his life via Celestis Memorial Spaceflights where he will remain amongst the stars.

The family would like to thank all of the nurses, doctor and staff of Legacy Hospice for their kindness and care for him.

Memorial contributions in Randy’s memory may be made to the UVA Alumni Association, PO Box 400314, Charlottesville, VA 22904, www.givecampus.com, or, the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, PO Box 937, Verona, VA 24482, www.brafb.org.
