Boyd "B.F." Franklin Caricofe

December 25, 1957 - August 5, 2023

Boyd Franklin “B.F.” Caricofe, Jr. of New Hope, took his final checkered flag in his earthly life on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Augusta Health Hospital. B.F. was born in Harrisonburg, VA on December 25, 1957. He was the son of Boyd Franklin Caricofe, Sr. and Dorothy Lucille Bunch Caricofe. B.F. was preceded in death by his parents as well as his sister, Joan Darnell Caricofe Simmons.

B.F. was a graduate of Fort Defiance High School, Class of 1977. He married his wife, Peggy, on June 19, 1976. B.F. worked for the Pepsi Cola Bottling Company for fourteen years. He was around automobiles all of his life and took auto mechanics while in school at Valley Vo-Tech. His love of cars, and working on cars with his Dad, led him to opening the family owned and operated business of Caricofe’s Auto Repair and Machine Shop in New Hope, which was later expanded to include Caricofe’s Towing. In 2004, B.F. and Peggy expanded the family business once again with the purchase of Shenandoah Auto Salvage in Lyndhurst.

In B.F.’s spare time, he could be found at the racetrack, continuing his Dad’s legacy of racing. Racing was a multi-generational hobby that B.F. loved and shared with his Dad, his children, “B” and Crystal, his grandsons, Franklin and Dalton, and his great-grandson, Raylan “Waylan”. When B.F. wasn’t at the racetrack, he would likely be found farming on their Lazy Acres farm. He loved spending time with his family and friends, and hosting celebrations that brought families together. He had a special way of mentoring the younger generation. He would never do the work for them; however, he would show them and guide them, but they had to do the work themselves.

B.F.’s life was one of love for his family, friends and community, hard work, dedication, and generosity. He had a compassionate heart that was especially drawn to helping those that were experiencing difficult times and in need of someone extending their grace. He would show them he cared and that they mattered. He would give them a second chance (sometimes a third and fourth chance). He lived a large life that touched many hearts and impacted many lives.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart, and wife of forty-seven years, Peggy Sue Waybright Caricofe of New Hope; one son, Boyd Franklin “B” Caricofe, III of New Hope; one daughter, Crystal Lucille Caricofe of New Hope; a sister, Loretta Darlene Caricofe Dameron and husband Andrew of New Hope; six grandchildren, Boyd “Franklin” Caricofe, IV, Dalton Wyatt Caricofe, Reonia Marie Miles, Nathaniel Reid Miles, Kindrea Elaine Miles, Topangia Dawn; two great-grandsons that were PawPaw’s little buddies, Raylan “Waylan” Haston Hoodless, Colt Eli Gough; three brother-in-laws, Rodger “Rocky” Simmons, Tommy Waybright (Linda), Bobby Waybright; four sister-in-laws, Brenda Hansbrough, Patsy Brooks (Donnie), Georgie Schages, Polly Henderson; nieces and nephews, KimBerely Simmons Hinkel (Danny Lee), Roxann Simmons Canipe (Mike), Jason Edward Massie, Tosha Massie Ritchie (Richard), Cyndi Massie Taylor, Joshua Hayes Massie; special bonus family, J.D., Nicole, and Morgan Robinson; family friend, Renee “Loose Nut” Toler; numerous additional nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends whom he loved dearly.
