Billy Simmons

June 19, 1957 - June 19, 2026

MIDDLEBROOK – William Clarence “Billy” Simmons, Jr., husband of Lorri Simmons, passed away on his 69th birthday – Friday, June 19, 2026 - following an intense battle with cancer.

Billy was born in Staunton on June 19, 1957 to William Clarence and Ruby May (Hendricks) Simmons.

Billy owned and operated Millennium Floor Sanding for 30+ years, and was proud of his work in finishing and restoring beautiful floors. All three of his sons had the privilege of working with their dad in this enterprise for a number of years. Billy was previously employed by Rocco for over twenty years.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed creatures of all sorts, from wildlife to his chickens and cattle, his dogs Bo, Ciara, Cinnamon, King and Pippy, his barn cats, and his housecat Cheddar. Billy adored his grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed summers at Lake Moomaw. Billy loved the Lord and attended Middlebrook Church of God.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Eliza “Mammaw” and Charles Hendricks; paternal grandfather Amos Simmons; parents-in-law Donald and Joanne McQuain; sister Janet Christine “Tina” Simmons; and sister-in-law Melissa Fry Simmons.

Surviving are his wife of nearly 48 years, Lorri Marie McQuain Simmons; three sons, Shawne D. Simmons, Derrick C. Simmons (Tabatha Humphrey) and Dustin M. Simmons (Katlyn Cash); brothers Joseph “Joey” Simmons (wife Kim), Timothy Simmons, and Mark Simmons; sister Terry Mullenax; grandchildren Lawrence Simmons, Landon Simmons, Laila Simmons, Aria Simmons, and Brooklyn Riley; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24 in the chapel of Bear Funeral Home, officiated by Pastors Merle Dodson and Larry Strickler. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home.
