Betty Sue Johnson Cupp
Betty Sue Johnson Cupp, 82, of Dayton, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at the Bridgewater Home.
She was born on June 23, 1942 and was a daughter of the late John Milton Johnson and Mary Velma (Price) Johnson.
Betty grew up on a tobacco farm, where she learned to get an early start and work hard. She graduated from the Medical College of Virginia (now VCU) with her Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing. She worked for 2 years at North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC, and retired in 2007 after 35 years of service at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in the Family Birthplace. She was a member of Briery Branch Church of the Brethren. She was active with Bible Study Fellowship for many years. She was passionate about gardening, canning, cooking and baking, and enjoyed sharing with others. Betty loved college basketball, and was an avid fan of the North Carolina Tar Heels. But her greatest joy came from being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Betty was united in marriage to F. Wayne Cupp, for 58 years.
Betty is survived by her children, Laura Matson & husband Greg, and Maurice Cupp & wife Melissa; twin sister, Mary Lou Williford; six grandchildren, Hannah Wolfe & husband Logan, Samuel Cupp & wife Amy, Grace Matson, Lydia Matson, Jewel Matson, and Sarah Matson; two great grandchildren, Elijah Cupp, and Archer Cupp and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. Thomas Johnson.
A service celebrating Betty's life will be held on February 26, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Briery Branch Church of the Brethren Cemetery with Pastor Bob Johnson and Pastor Randy Cosner officiating. Burial will follow at Briery Branch Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service.
