Betty Lee Organ Grier
Betty Lee (Organ) Grier, 82, widow of Jerry “Bobby” Grier of 209 Park Boulevard, Apt. B, Staunton, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mrs. Grier was born in Brownsburg, Virginia on January 3, 1941, a daughter of the late Sherman and Fannie (Lee) Organ.
Betty was an active member of Mt. Salem Baptist Church. She retired with thirty-five years of service from Western State Hospital and will be remembered best as a lady that “lived life at its fullest every day.”
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Grier was preceded in death by a son, Jerry “T.T.” Grier; a brother, Sherman Thomas Organ; and special friend, Garfield Morman.
Surviving is a son, James Grier and his wife, Tamar of Staunton; a sister, Katie Davis of Waynesboro; five grandchildren, Jessica, Ashley, Taylor and Shawntil Grier and Delisa Robinson; eight great-grandchildren, Messiah Washington, James Crawford, IV, Orion Grier, I’mez Bowie, Raelynn Carter, Ilya Taylor, Amiya Waddy and Kiyanne Waddy; three step-grandchildren, Marcus, Lamar and Aaron Waddy; one step-great granddaughter, Malaya Waddy; special friends, Josephine Stewart, Laura Bady, Holly Casey, Sharon Washington, Virginia Brown Vaughn ; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2023 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Minister Wanza Organ.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Robert Lewis, Mark Simmons, Robert Carter, Donnell Garland, Kevin Carter and Shawn Organ.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory at 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
