Betty Jean (Desper) Bottenfield

January 11, 1944 - March 7, 2025

Betty Jean (Desper) Bottenfield, 81, widow of Robert Ernest “Bobby” Bottenfield, of Staunton, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2025 at her residence, after a two year struggle from a ruptured aorta and the long healing process from multiple surgeries and complications thereafter.
Mrs. Bottenfield was born in Waynesboro, Virginia on January 11, 1944, a daughter of the late Homer Houston Desper and Elizabeth Jeanette King. After living in Baltimore, Maryland and attending school there, she moved to Augusta County, Virginia when she was around 15 years old. She has lived in Augusta County ever since.
Although she endured so much pain and suffering, Jean rarely complained about herself but always tried to keep a good attitude. Anyone who knew her, knew she had a great sense of humor and loved to hear and tell jokes. She cared deeply for her family and friends. Jean was always more concerned and emotionally connected to the things going on with those in her life than she was with her own. Her heartfelt attention and caring nature shown to everyone will never be forgotten. Jean was a member of Bethlehem Community Church in Swoope, where she attended faithfully until her illness. She was devoted to serving our Lord and was a proud Christian who cherished and loved her church family.
Surviving, is a daughter, Karen J. Hildebrand and her husband, Derek of Staunton; two grandchildren, Trey H. Lawson and Lyric R. Hildebrand; two brothers, Howard Desper and his wife Jennifer of Staunton, and Alan Desper of Goodview; a sister, Sandra Desper of Deerfield; a special long time dedicated friend, Virginia Mae Cline of Staunton.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2025 in the Bethlehem Community Church by Mr. Daniel Carter and Pastor David Boger.
Burial will follow in Bethlehem Community Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Derek Hildebrand, Howard Desper, Tony Rankin, Jason Willett, Drew Sterrett and Patrick Garrison.
Following the service there will be a luncheon and the family invites you to join them in a time of fellowship.
