Betty Gay Mallow

September 23, 1935 - December 19, 2023

Betty Gay Ketterman Mallow, age 88, of Franklin, WV, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Pendleton Manor in Franklin, WV. She was born on September 23, 1935, in Petersburg, WV, the daughter of the late Kate Sites Ketterman. On June 22, 1956, Betty married E. Paul Mallow, who preceded her in death on October 5, 1983. 

Betty was a 1954 graduate of Petersburg High School and was also a graduate of the WV Business College. She worked in various secretarial fields from 1956 to 1997. 

Betty loved to attend church at a young age. She recalled walking to church in the Ridges of Petersburg, WV and often said, “God has always been with me”. Betty learned to sew and was known to sew her own clothing as well as her family's. She was an avid gardener and loved to bless family, friends and businesses with her beautiful flowers. She took pride in cooking and enjoyed sharing her homemade pies with her family and was always searching for new recipes to share. Betty's passion in addition to her hobbies was living on her farm and taking long walks, seeking to find a new rock for her collection. 

After the death of her husband, Betty became involved in the beef industry. One of her proudest achievements was receiving Potomac Valley District Farmer of the year award. She was a proud member of the Republican Committee and she had served in various offices over the years. 

Betty was the last surviving member of her immediate family and she leaves behind to cherish her memory: 2 sons, Jeff Mallow (Yvonne) of Brandywine, WV, Brad Mallow (Kathy) of Cameron, NC; one daughter, Lori Raines (Rick) of Franklin, WV; 6 grandchildren, Stephen Mallow, Alyssa Mallow, Abby Beecher (Justin), Katherine Matagi (Travis), Brett Raines (Danielle), and Logan Raines; 3 step-grandchildren; Brandon Baudin (Jennifer), Brett Baudin (Chelsea), Breana Burgess; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 nieces, Joyce and Darlene Ketterman; a nephew, Roger Ketterman; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her mother and husband, she was preceded in death: by a brother, Bert Ketterman; sister-in-law, Alice Ketterman;  a nephew, LeRoy Ketterman; and a great-niece, Peggy Ketterman.

A gravesides service will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Mt. Hope Lutheran Church Cemetery in Upper Tract, WV. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in honor of Betty to any Pendleton County Emergency Rescue Squad or the Mt. Hope Lutheran Church.
