Betsy (Wilson) Cassady

Betsy (Wilson) Cassady, 74, of McGaheysville, Virginia, was raised in New Market and stayed a country girl her whole live. Betsy passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at Sentara RMH Medical Center.

She was born on March 15, 1951 and was a daughter of the late Raymond Morris Wilson and Betty June (Royston) Landis.

Betsy won the Miss Shenandoah County Fair title in 1967 at the age of 16. Along with many years at Marshall's and Coors Shenandoah, she was a craft person and artist, displaying her creations at craft fairs for many years. She also loved Scuba diving, but Betsy's true love was her animal pets, mostly dogs and horses. After retirement, she spent the next 10 years transporting rescued dogs to shelters north on I-81. Her own last two dogs included Susie Q, one of her rescues, and Bonnie girl, her favorite dog ever.

Betsy's in a better place now, but will be terribly missed by her husband Tim, siblings David Dee Wilson and Barbara Wilson and her many friends.

Friends may call at the Johnson Funeral & Cremation Service in Grottoes on Sunday, June 15, 2025 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Casual attire is requested.
