Barry Wade Simmons
Barry Wade Simmons, 71, husband of Phyllis Marie (Potter) Simmons, of Staunton, Virginia passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Mr. Simmons was born on October 30, 1951 in Harrisonburg, Virginia, one of three children to Cleo Linwood (Smith) Simmons and the late Vernon Roy Simmons.
Barry met the love of his life, Phyllis, and was married on September 27, 1975. They shared both good and bad times for almost 48 years.
Barry was a member of the Staunton Church of the Brethren and was active with the Men’s Fellowship. Barry was retired from the medical equipment service field at Greenbrier, Rotech, Staunton Medical Center, and Freedom Respiratory. Barry had a special love for hunting, the outdoors, and wildlife. He enjoyed hunting many years with his father. He was also a fan of Formula One racing and European Sports Cars.
Surviving in addition to his mother of Staunton and his wife of 48 years, is a son, Chadwick Vernon Simmons of Staunton; a brother, Larry Simmons and his wife Deborah of Fishersville; a sister, Jenna S. Williams of Staunton; a half-sister, Rose Smith of Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania; an uncle, Hobert Simmons; an aunt, Wanda Pitsenbarger; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday September 15, 2023 in the Staunton Church of the Brethren by Pastor Beth Jarrett.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service or other times at the residence of his mother, 353 Grandon Road, Staunton.
Burial will be private at Augusta Memorial Park in Fishersville.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Staunton Church of the Brethren Capital Fund, 1615 N. Coalter Street, Staunton, Virginia 24401.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is handling his arrangements.
