Barbara M. Hevener
CHURCHVILLE – Barbara Ann (Masincupp) Hevener, 85, died Friday (November 5, 2021) in her home.
Born August 28, 1936 in Hagerstown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Brainard Glossbrenner Masincupp and Elizabeth Cornelia (Troxell) Masincupp Smith.
Barbara graduated from R. E. Lee High School in June of 1953. She was employed as a secretary, first for Mary Baldwin College, and then for many years for the Potomac Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. She was a member of the Staunton Seventh-day Adventist Church where she also served in secretarial roles at various times. Barbara enjoyed serving her community as a poll worker in local elections. Most significantly, she was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker.
On November 26, 1953 she married Curtis Wayne Hevener, who survives along with their two children, Daryl Wayne Hevener and wife Tammy of Verona, and Cathy Wright and husband Paul J. Wright, III of Richmond; four half-siblings, Karen Marshall, Chip Masincupp, Betsy Curtis and Danny Masincupp, all of South Carolina; and four grandchildren, Erica Sue Hevener, Brenton Wayne Hevener, Jessica Elizabeth Wright and Curtis Alexander Wright.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, November 12 in the Staunton Seventh-day Adventist Church, officiated by Pastor Robert Banks. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Joie Hevener, Reggie Hevener, Aaron Cheney, David Hevener, Larry Sheffer, Mark Battle, Brenton Hevener, Carl Moyers and Calvin Ratcliffe. Honorary pallbearers will be John and Mary Beth Sypher, John and Joyce Miller, and Gary and Karen Michael.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday in Bear Funeral Home.
