Barbara Ellen Knight

Barbara "Sis" Ellen Knight, 74, of Bridgewater, passed away peacefully in her home and went to join her loving husband, Johnny, on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

She was born on March 28, 1952, and was a daughter of Paul W. and Carmie (Shipe) Joseph.

Barbara retired from Harman Construction after over 10 years of service and decades as a superintendent in the local construction industry.

Barbara was united in marriage on Dec. 2, 1972 to John Knight, who preceded her in death in 2022.

Barbara is survived by four children, Terry Knight, Sherry Knight, Wendy (companion Michael) Knight, and Barbi (Justin) Spitler; brothers, James Joseph, Charles Joseph, Doug (Sandy) Joseph, and Ronnie (Tammy) Joseph; sisters, Sandra (Phil) Rohrer, and Dawn (Mitch) Shifflett. Ten grandchildren, Ricky (Joleda) Brooks, Ethan Knight, Steven Brooks, Morgan (Caleb) Howell, Katie Spitler, Chloe Knight-Nutty, Jesica Spitler, Levi Spitler, Celinne and Leo Alvarado-Knight; a great-grandson, Jakob Wayne Knight; long-time friend, Jeanne Zimmerman and daughters, Megan Zimmerman and Bree (Doug) Pitts; numerous nieces and nephews, beloved cat, Sophia.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Curtis Shipe, and John Joseph.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 PM on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Bridgewater.

A graveside service celebrating Barbara's life will be held at 11 AM on Monday, July 20th, at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg, with David Kite officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bridgewater Rescue Squad, PO Box 268, Bridgewater, VA 22812.
