Rebecca Lynn Schlaegel

June 22, 1959 - July 4, 2023

Rebecca Lynn Schlaegel, age 64, of Franklin, WV, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at her home. She was born on June 22, 1959, the daughter of the late Van and June (Heacock) Harrison. On July 20, 1996, Rebecca married the love of her life, Robert Alan Schlaegel, who survives in Franklin.

Rebecca was a 1977 graduate of Worthington High School and a 1981 graduate of Ohio State University, with a Masters Degree in Special Education. She was an Educator with a big heart, having taught special needs at many schools including Torah Academy for 3 years, Avalon Education Clinic for 5 years, Marvin Academy, and later retiring in November 2018, after 17 years as a Special Education Interventionist from Pendleton County Schools in Franklin.

Rebecca was a member of Franklin Presbyterian Church for many years and attended Redeeming Grace Church. Applying her skills, talent, and love for children, she wrote children's books, including her most recent, “Trevor the Runaway Turkey”. Rebecca loved the outdoors, fishing, playing darts, and raising Alpacas

With the abundance of knowledge she possessed, she had accepted a position at Redeeming Grace Academy as the Director of Student Services. Rebecca was a member of International Dyslexia Association and had served on the board for Habitat for Humanity.

In addition to her husband, Rebecca leaves behind to cherish her memory: 2 sisters, Shelly Morgan of Skiatook, OK, Charolotte; a brother, Robert Patrick (Stacy) Harrison of Leesburg, VA; and 3 half brothers, Tim Fitzer, Eugene Morgan, and T. J. Fitzer.

Rebecca's family will receive friends on Saturday, July 22, 2023, 1-2 PM at Redeeming Grace Church in Franklin, WV. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Jason Boggs officiating. Entombment of Rebecca's cremains will be at St. James Episcopal Church in Leesburg, VA. Memorials may be made to South Fork Volunteer Fire Rescue Squad or Redeeming Grace Christian Academy.
