Audry Keeler

June 22, 1928 - December 1, 2023

Audry Lucille Keeler, age 95, previously at 287 W. King Street, Strasburg, passed away on Friday Dec.1, 2023 while a resident at Skyline Terrace Nursing Home and Memory Lane in Woodstock, VA. 

A Funeral service will be conducted at Stover Funeral Home on Friday, Dec. 8 at 11:00AM. with Pastor Deb Horst Officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery where she will be laid to rest alongside her loving husband, George W. Keeler.

Mrs. Keeler was born June 22, 1928. She was one of seven children born to the late Earl and Wilmouth (Cook) Keckley, all who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Strasburg High School and obtained a master’s degree in physical education from the University of VA. She returned to the newly constructed high school in 1959, where she taught health, physical education and drivers’ education for 31 years. She coached the girls’ basketball team along with Bud Ring. She continued to spend her winters in Myrtle Beach after George died combing the beach for sharks’ teeth, swimming and playing bingo with her friends. She was a member of Wakeman’s Grove Church of the Brethren. Where she was an active participant in many Brethren Disaster Projects.  She always had a bag packed and was ready to travel at a moment’s notice. During this time, she met (13) Navy Seabees on a volunteer disaster trip after Hurricane Katrina and took quite a few trips with them for about 5 years. She never met a stranger and loved every one of her students like they were her own.

Survivors include two daughters, Wynne Lancaster of Strasburg, Valerie Renner of Edinburg; three granddaughters, Jennifer Sager (Robbie) of Edinburg, Aimee Lancaster Eisensmith (Andrew) of Pooler, GA and Lacy Renner Kreitzer of Woodstock; six great grandchildren, Steven (DJ) Barb of Woodstock, Brianna Lancaster of Pooler, GA, Elizabeth Barb of Edinburg, Sierra Sager of Edinburg, Lynden & Lennix Kreitzer of Woodstock; three great-great grandchildren, Coralynn, Isabella, Holden; several nephews and nieces. One of which was very special to her, William Allen Keeler of Strasburg.

Pallbearers will be Gary Shipe, Nathaniel Dirting, Wes Kreitzer, Dave Hull, Ben Fretz and DJ Barb.

William Allen Keeler will serve as the honorary pallbearer.

The Family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 PM at the Stover Funeral Home in Strasburg.
