Ann P. Huffer

CHURCHVILLE – Anna Virginia “Ann” (Powers) Huffer, 96, passed away Tuesday (May 19, 2026) in Asheville, North Carolina where she had been receiving care since August from Cherri, the granddaughter she raised.

Born June 12, 1929 in Greenbrier County, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late James Franklin and Tilda Ann (Phipps) Powers.

Ann was a faithful member of Glossbrenner United Methodist Church where she taught the primary Sunday school class for 30 years and was very active in other aspects of church life. She was a lifetime member of the Churchville Volunteer Fire Department ladies’ auxiliary, serving there for 42 years.

On June 23, 1946 she married Tyree N. Huffer, who preceded her in death on April 26, 2006. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Elaine Huffer; two sons, Richard Lee Huffer and James Tyree Huffer; five sisters, Stella Hanna, Malcena Warren, Verna Legg, Edith Phillips, and Pauline Farris; and four brothers, Ernest “Buck” Powers, Howard Powers, Estell “Jack” Powers, and J. F. Powers Jr.

Surviving are two sons, Steven Dale Huffer (wife Mona) of Churchville, and Jerry Wayne Huffer of Mount Solon; seven granddaughters, Virginia Ann “Cherri” Huffer (husband Matthew Huber), Bridgett Huffer Bartley (husband Tracy), Jaime Penney (husband Chip), Melanie Dawn Huffer-Hedrick (husband Darrell), Julie Jahanour (husband Sam), Jessica Lynn Huffer, and Jordan Leigh Huffer; two grandsons, Nicholas Kyle Huffer (wife Rebecca), and Travis Geoffrey Huffer; nine great-grandchildren, Elijah Moreta (wife Alexa), Colton Hisey, Madison Huffer, Mason Huffer, Skyler Penney, Katelyn Penney, Yonas Jahanour, Celeste Jahanour, and Kendalynn Huffer; numerous nieces and nephews; and former daughter-in-law, caregiver and dear friend Betty Oberholtzer.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23 in the chapel of Bear Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Lester Kennedy. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Travis and Nick Huffer, Elijah Moreta, Mason Huffer, Rusty Carter, Lance Armstrong, Danny Griffin, Bob Huffer and Rudy Armstrong. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home, and other times at the home of Steve and Mona Huffer.
