Ada Conyers

September 26, 1933 - May 28, 2025

Ada Ann (Blackwell) Conyers, at 91 years of age, Staunton, died the 28th day of May 2025 at the University of Virginia Hospital’s Neuro ICU.

She was born September 26, 1933, in Newport News, Virginia, to the late Howard Franklin Blackwell, Jr. and Ethel Ada (Murphy) Blackwell.

Ada was a graduate of Wilson Memorial High School. With her five sons in tow, she earned her Bachelor’s & Master’s degree from James Madison University. She continued her education at University of Virginia earning a PhD in Education and Administration, becoming Dr. Ada B. Conyers.

She was a public-school teacher and principal, as well as a self-employed Augusta County businesswoman for over 43 years. Of note, she was the first kindergarten teacher in Augusta County.

Her surviving family members include her three sons, Thomas Scott Conyers and his wife, Lynn Hilton Conyers of Lyndhurst. Joseph Douglas Conyers and Betsy Conyers of Fishersville. Samuel Neal Conyers and his wife Lori Conyers of Fishersville.

Her grandchildren include: Scott and Lynn’s son, Thomas Heath Conyers and his wife Andrea Canerossi; Danny’s daughters, Melissa Lloyd and husband Tommy Lloyd, and Alexis Conyers and her partner Catherine; Doug and Betsy’s children, Joshua Conyers and his wife Grace and Sara Jessica Conyers. Neal and Lori’s children, Cory Brant and his wife Katelyn, Taylor Morgan Conyers, Elizabeth Couch and her husband Brad Couch, Caleb Neal Conyers and his wife Carley Conyers, Emily Canterbury and her fiancé Dillon Walczak, Jenna Canterbury, Jason Canterbury and Brendan Reid.

Her great-grandchildren include: Heath and Andrea’s children, Thomas Embree, Jon Reuben, Samuel and Alyssa Conyers; Melissa and Tommy’s children, Jace, Brynna, and Evan Lloyd, and Elizabeth and Brad’s daughter, Sadie Couch.

She was proceeded in death by her beloved sons Jonathan T. Conyers and Daniel Stuart Conyers of Fishersville as well as her sisters, Dorothea Anthony, Dolores Zsedely, who was survived by her husband Attilla Zsedely, and Loretta James and her late husband, Mike James.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 from 6pm until 7pm at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home in Fishersville where a brief celebration of life service will follow.

She has asked her ashes to be spread in three special locations that meaningful to her sons.
