A. Emerson Willard

November 5, 1921 - July 16, 2023

WILMINGTON, N.C. - A. Emerson Willard, recent widower of Elisabeth “Libby” White Willard of Churchville – his beloved wife since 1951 - died at his home on Masonboro Sound, Wilmington on July 16, 2023.

He was born on November 5, 1921, to the late Martin S. Willard and Margaret Glendy Martin.

Emerson attended Davidson College and the U. S. Naval Academy prior to serving as a Naval Aviator during World War II.

He was a partner in Crown Point Poultry Farm, and owner of the Crown Point Marine boatbuilding enterprise. Emerson was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon and Elder.

He is survived by his sons, A. Emerson Willard Jr. and his wife E. Anne Willard of Staunton, and W. Martin Willard and his wife Amanda Misner of Wilmington; his grandson, Simon Emerson Willard of Staunton; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife; his brother, Martin Stevenson Willard, Jr.; and his sister, Glenn Willard Higgins.

There will be a memorial service for both Emerson and Libby Willard on Friday, September 29, 2023 at 1:30PM in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, Wilmington.

Memorial contributions may be made in their honor to the Pastors’ Fund of First Presbyterian Church, 125 South 3rd Street, Wilmington, NC 28401.
