John William Cook
John William Cook, 65, of Staunton, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at Augusta Health in Fishersville. He was born on September 20, 1961 in Staunton to the late Linda G. Cook.
John was employed for almost 46 years in the Maintenance Department for Augusta County, where he achieved the position of Building Maintenance Supervisor. Away from work, John enjoyed time in the outdoors with his family and friends where he would go hunting in Highland County on the family property. He also enjoyed going to West Virginia to the Hatfield and McCoy Trails to ride his four wheelers or side by side. John loved watching his granddaughter’s ballet recitals and cheering on his grandson at his football games. He will be remembered for being a kind and loving man, who would do anything for anyone, and didn’t hesitate to lend a hand to someone in need.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Myra Dean Cook, who he married on November 9, 1985. He has two loving daughters that were the light of his life, Heather Lambert and husband, John and Katrina Brucia and husband, Joe; two beautiful grandchildren, Kaylor and Braeton Lambert, who he was very proud of. He is also survived by a very special aunt, Barbara L. Guffey, who was like a mother to him and was one of the most special people in his life. John will be remembered by his extended family, treasured friends and co-workers.
A funeral service will be conducted at 4pm on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 2pm until 4pm on Saturday, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
